Food Fight is a two-week event that raises money and collects non-perishable food to donate to the Greater Lansing Food Bank. The Food Bank is a local non-profit organization that collects and distributes food to people living in the Lansing area community who are struggling financially and need assistance providing enough food for their families. The Broad MBA program has a long-standing relationship with the Food Bank and we have conducted several successful fundraising and food collecting activities to benefit this organization.

There are many ways to participate in Food Fight over the two weeks and contribute to the Broad MBA tradition of community involvement:
1. Participate in the 1st year vs. 2nd year “Penny Wars”
2. Bring non-perishable food to the MBA Lounge
3. Participate in each Food Fight event:

The Graduate Supply Chain Management Association, GSCMA, is dedicated to three pillars of education, networking, and experience. On Friday, January 22nd, Broad MBA students went on a trek to Steelcase where they satisfied these ideas. The Steelcase executives were beyond helpful, attentive, and engaged. They sponsored the students for a tour around their elegantly decorated office, which even showcased a walking work station (see photo). We toured the Global Business Center and Learning Center. Students were inspired by the idea of working for such an innovative company. They hosted a networking session where Steelcase executives were represented in strong numbers and then conducted a panel. Students benefited from having access to senior executives as well as newly hired grads.
After Steelcase, the GSCMA went to Lansing Brewing Company for a brewery tour. Most students had never seen the operations of a brewery and found supply chain issues that they discuss in class. Students heard from a brew master who described the process from ordering materials and building relationships with suppliers to finished goods inventory and shipping to customers. They covered topics of volume discounts and then went into process flow and kanban systems for the brewing process.
The GSCMA would like to thank Steelcase and Lansing Brewing Company for all of their support and cooperation throughout the day to help the association meet their goals for education, networking, and experience.
